Fulbright Canada Visiting Research Chair in Climate Change, Air Quality, and Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of California Irvine

Fulbright Canada offers a unique opportunity to both prominent and promising Canadian scholars to pursue scholarship and professional development at the University of California, Irvine. The Fulbright Visiting Research Chair will spend up to two academic terms in residence at the UCI School of Physical Sciences conducting research on atmospheric sciences in close collaboration with researchers from the AirUCI institute.

AirUCI is a multidisciplinary environmental research team dedicated to understanding and solving issues related to air pollution, climate change, water quality, and green technology — locally and globally — and their effects on human health and well-being. For this Chair position, AirUCI is especially interested in attracting experts in atmospheric aerosols, and their roles in air quality and climate. Projects linking fundamental chemistry to biological effects of air pollutants are of particular interest.

The Chair will be expected to carry out collaborative research with atmospheric scientists from the AirUCI institute, deliver public lectures and give seminar presentations to UCI scientists, teach a special topics graduate level course in atmospheric sciences, and participate in conferences, outreach activities, and otherwise contribute to ongoing research activities at UCI. The Chair position is sponsored by the UCI School of Physical Sciences, AirUCI, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research in partnership with Fulbright Canada. The Chair will reside in the Department of Chemistry within the School of Physical Sciences, and collaborate closely with AirUCI scientists from other schools and departments.

Specializations: Although preference will be given to scholars working in the area of atmospheric aerosol chemistry, applicants from atmospheric physics, atmospheric engineering, air pollution research, health effects of air pollutants, climate effects of air pollutants are also strongly encouraged to apply.
