The Foundation for Educational Exchange is an active member of both the American and Canadian higher education communities. In addition to our primary exchange programs, the Foundation also engaged in a variety of activities and initiatives that allow us to fulfil our mandate of enhancing mutual understanding between the people of Canada and the people of the United States of America.
An excellent and timely example of this type of work is our recently completed Study on Student Mobility Between Canada and the United States. The report was released in the fall of 2009, subsequent to its presentation at a series of international conferences. It was undertaken in partnership and with the financial support of the U.S. State Department, and initiated under the auspices of the Fulbright for the Future initiative. It specifically addresses some of the key factors and conditions that shape student mobiiity between our two countries. While its finding are prelimary, and more empirical work is clearly called for, it is based on significant new data and it provides a very real and important contribution to our understanding of student mobility.
