The English Department at McGill University invites applications to fill the Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in American Literature for a four-month residency in 2019-2020 with a possible extension for the full academic year. Applicants should be productive scholars with significant records of research in African-American Literature and/or writing of the Black Diaspora. A focus on any author or authors of any period from the 19th-century to the present would be welcome. The Fulbright Chair will teach one advanced course in the area of his or her current research, and will play a central role in meetings of a faculty working group on African-American Literature and History (bringing together interested faculty members from the Departments of English, Art History, History, and North American Studies). To facilitate the Fulbright Chair’s own ongoing work, the Department of English will furnish office space, computer and telephone access, and library privileges.

The Department of Communication, Media and Film at the University of Calgary seeks a Fulbright scholar to conduct research in the area of critical studies of technology with a focus on emerging digital media and society. Critical digital media studies is a vibrant and growing area of strength in the department, with a number of established (Dr. Maria Bakardieva, Dr. Richard Hawkins) and new (Dr. Tamara Shepherd, Dr. Greg Taylor, Dr. Jessalyn Keller) scholars working to place digital media into larger cultural, political, economic, and historical contexts. The University of Calgary seeks an interdisciplinary scholar who can draw on insights from areas such as science and technology studies, political economy, digital ethnography, and critical cultural studies and contribute to the academic life of the department by conducting research on the growing role of digital media in society, teaching a seminar in their area of expertise, and developing connections through formal and informal collaborations with colleagues within the department and across the Faculty of Arts.
