Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Gender and Political Leadership at the University of Calgary

US$25,000 for 4 months
September 2018 or January 2019
Fulbright Canada Program Officer (Scholars)

The Department of Political Science seeks scholars working on any aspect of gender and political leadership, and is open to a wide variety of theoretical and methodological approaches. The scholar will benefit from the Department’s extensive existing research strengths in the area of politics and gender. At present, the Department contains a number of gender and politics scholars, with a research focus on political behaviour (Brenda O’Neill, David Stewart, and Melanee Thomas), political representation (Susan Franceschet), Indigenous gender politics (Daniel Voth), party leadership (Brenda O’Neill and Melanee Thomas), political executives (Susan Franceschet) and feminist political theory (Regina Cochrane). The Chair would offer an important opportunity for developing linkages between these existing and the scholar’s own strengths. We are especially interested in welcoming a scholar who will contribute to the academic life of the department by teaching a seminar in their area of expertise, offering a public lecture on the topic of their research, and developing connections with gender scholars across the Faculty of Arts. The potential exists for involving the Chair in the organization of a gender and political leadership conference.

Specializations: Gender and Political Leadership - political executives, legislatures, courts, political parties, and social movements.

Applicants are encouraged to identify their primary and alternate choices on the application. Formal letters of invitation should not be sought; however, applicants are encouraged to contact the institution to discuss research interests.
