Our People, Our Health

Fulbright Canada sponsored a workshop at a major national conference convened by the National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO). The workshop featured current Fulbright grantees Elizabeth Muggah (Fulbright student in public health at Harvard University in Cambridge) and Rose Alene Roberts (Fulbright Scholar in Residence at the Northwest Indian College in Washington State), as well as Fulbright alumni Irit Rasooly (a Fulbright student in 2007-08, who is currently a medical student in Washington, DC) and Dawn Martin Hill (Fulbright Scholar 1995-96, and currently Academic Director of the Indigenous Studies Program at McMaster University). These scholars offered a comparative assessment of the incorporation of indigenous knowledge in western medicine in Canada and the United States. This workshop was part of an exciting four day conference that included scholars, practitioners, public officials, and a large contingent of students and young leaders, all working on various aspects of aboriginal health policy from both sides of the border.
