In the next 150 years, I hope that Canada starts healing the relationship between itself and Indigenous peoples. I am studying the medicinal plants of Inuit communities for my MSc project, and my research project is inadvertently showing me the perspective of Inuit and other Indigenous communities. It is not going to be easy to reconcile past wrong doings, but we should not think about an end goal right now. The most important thing is to take action, listen, and start working towards a mutually beneficial relationship for Canada and Indigenous groups.
I am completing my Masters of Science in Biology at l’Université de Montréal. I am doing my Masters with funding from NSERC/CRSNG. I am studying the plant knowledge of Inuit communities in Nunatsiavut, an autonomous Inuit region in what was formally Labrador.
