Fulbright students and scholars are natural leaders. The Fulbright Canada-RBC Eco-Leadership Program provides grants to Fulbright Canada grantees and to Fulbright Canada alumni to engage in environmental action in their community.
In 2009,
11 outstanding Fulbrighters
reached out to their local communities and organized a series of projects that are sure to have a lasting and beneficial impact. Last year, Fulbright Canada and RBC provided Eco-Leadership awards to
13 current Fulbrighters and alumni of the program

The program is designed to provide small grants ($2000 - $4000) to Fulbrighters who seek to engage in environmental action in their host or home community. The Fulbright Canada-RBC Eco-Leadership Program builds on the model of our successful Mobility Program, by soliciting proposals from current grant recipients and alumni to undertake community-based environmental initiatives.
Fulbright Canada-RBC Eco-Leadership proposals consist of a project description (including how the project engages the community, along with some discussion of the intended outcomes) and a budget (detailing any available matching funds and specifying the use and purpose of grant monies). All proposals are evaluated by a committee composed of the Fulbright Canada CEO, two program officers, and one Fulbright alumnus with experience in the field of environmental science.
Applicants must be current or past recipients of a Fulbright award through the Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program. Current grantees in the 2011-2012 cohort are encouraged to submit a proposal for an activity, event, or program in their host community. Past recipients of Fulbright awards are eligible to receive an Eco-Leadership grant which can be taken up anywhere in Canada or the United States. The Eco-Leadership Program is based on the principle of volunteerism. Applications that request funding to be used for salaries, stipends, or any other form of compensation will be deemed ineligible. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to review the terms and conditions closely. All applicants have the option to complete an online application or to complete a paper application.
*DEADLINE EXTENDED* Applications must be received, electronically or by regular mail, no later than 5 pm EST on Wednesday, November 30th, 2011
