Regional Enhancement Seminar

The 2018 Fulbright Regional Enhancement seminar was designed to reflect the tremendous changes in technology, the economy, the workplace, the environment, migration, culture, and more that we all face on a daily basis. The seminar is focused on American graduate students who recently received Fulbright grants to Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru, who will share their research and their experiences as a Fulbright grantee.

The seminar examines the role that innovation and entrepreneurship can play in securing our collective future in the Americas. More specifically, the group explores the potential real world impact on public health, gender, legal issues and other important matters.

The program will begin in Montreal where innovation is examined from a variety of perspectives, including a visit to First Peoples' House at McGill University and a meeting with senior officials from MITACS. Subsequent to the day in Montreal, participants will engage in a daylong colloquium presenting and examining their work that relates to the broad theme of ‘Securing Our Future.’  U.S. Fulbright Students present in one of six cross-disciplinary panels. A visit to the US Embassy in Canada and opportunities to explore the rich history of Ottawa are an integral part of the seminar.

In addition to facilitating academic exchange, this program will allow U.S. Fulbright Students to share their experiences with one another and network with each other and with the Fulbright Canada community. Guest speakers and panel moderators include indigenous leaders from Canada, senior government officials, representatives from universities, and Canadian Fulbright alumni.

The seminar encourages international partnerships, allows for greater mutual understanding, and promotes openness to new ideas and new opportunities - all core values of the Fulbright program.
