Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Embodiment and Mathematics Education

Werklund School of Education

The Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary is seeking a scholar who has advanced research and practice in the application of theories of embodied cognition to mathematics education. To complement the existing strengths of Werklund’s mathematics education researchers, we are seeking a scholar whose transdisciplinary work emphasizes the roles of culture and environment in embodied cognition and design. The scholar will conduct high-level research in their area of interest, while collaborating with an accomplished group of scholars working in this field at the University of Calgary. At the candidate’s discretion, there will be opportunities to offer guest lectures and/or research presentations and engage with active research projects. Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Advanced Learning or Academically Gifted and Talented

Werklund School of Education

The Werklund School of Education seeks a Fulbright Canada Scholar working with large datasets in the area of Advanced Learning and/or Academically Gifted and Talented. We are especially interested in candidates with active programs of research that involve analysis using large-scale administrative databases to make international educational comparisons (e.g., PIRLS, PISA, TIMSS). We seek a scholar with experience building analytic models and leveraging the value of assessments that examine student performance and provide information on other aspects of our education systems. Through involvement with researchers, practitioners, and policy makers, the Fulbright Scholar will help use these tools to assess factors such as which students are benefiting and which are languishing with the goal of transformative changes to improve student well-being and academic growth. Based in the internationally recognized Werklund School of Education, this scholar will collaborate with interdisciplinary programs across campus and with communities across Canada. Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Award: US$25,000-$38,000 for 4-6 months

The Chair will be hosted by the AVP, Teaching, Learning and Scholarship, under the VP Academic’s portfolio and primarily engaged in working with faculty in our graduate and undergraduate departments (4). The Research Chair will leverage supports and resources available from the Centre for Teaching Excellence and the Office of Research and Scholarship, as well as others as needed.

The Fulbright Canada UCW Research Chair in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning will join an innovative business and technology-oriented, teaching-focused institution. The University offers MBA, Associate Arts, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business Communication degrees. UCW student and faculty are exceptionally diverse with students from more than 110 countries. UCW is a specialized teaching focussed institution and places great importance on understanding and improving teaching and learning practices in higher education. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is a strength area within UCW and the university community embraces critical adoption of innovation in education practices and education technology and strives to enhance the quality of education and student outcomes. The Research Chair will leverage their expertise in education technology and hybrid and on-line teaching to collaborate with faculty on ongoing SoTL research efforts and identify and pursue new areas for study. The Research Chair will participate in regular seminars and workshops and provide a public lecture. The Chair will be integrated into the MBA and Associate Arts departments and leverage supports and resources available from the Centre for Teaching Excellence and the Office of Research and Scholarship.
