Fulbright Canada Distinguished Chair in Multidisciplinary Research, Vanderbilt University
Vanderbilt University's McGee Applied Research Center for Narrative Studies equips people with the skills needed to navigate today's complex information environment. The Center is home to the Vanderbilt Television News Archive (TVNA), the most comprehensive collection of U.S. national television news, dating back to 1968. We are seeking a scholar to conduct research using TVNA and other relevant media sources on how news media narratives influence the way people understand the world — including how coverage of topics such as elections, foreign policy, immigration, climate, public health, and democratic institutions frames public debate and collective understanding. The scholar can approach research from a variety of methodological and theoretical perspectives, but should use TVNA as a primary dataset. Research may be conducted in collaboration with the McGee Center's executive director, but it is also appropriate for the scholar to seek other interdisciplinary collaborations within Vanderbilt. It is expected that research findings during the Fulbright will be submitted to relevant academic conferences and journals, as well as through public scholarship like news editorials, public talks, or media interviews. The scholar is expected to give at least two guest lectures on their research findings, with the opportunity to do more if applicable.

Applicants are encouraged to identify their primary and alternate choices on the application. Formal letters of invitation should not be sought; however, applicants are encouraged to contact the institution to discuss research interests.
