Fulbright-Hays Summer Seminar

Fulbright-Hays Summer Seminar Program

The Fulbright-Hays Summer Seminar provides short-term study and travel seminars for American teachers (normally K-12) in the social sciences and humanities for the purpose of improving their understanding and knowledge of the people and culture of other countries. There are approximately 10 seminars with 16 participants in each seminar annually. Seminars are four to six weeks in duration and are conducted in the summer. This program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, has an annual competition.

The Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program is geared towards educators with little or no experience in the host country and those that have demonstrated the need to develop and enhance their curriculum through short-term study and travel abroad. The previous summer seminar program, offered jointly with Mexico, engaged 16 participants during the summer of 2007. The seminar, entitled Getting to know America's Neighbours: Identity, Community, and Environment in Mexico and Canada, explored the construction of national and cultural identity in both countries over a five week period. The Foundation anticipates that in 2011 or 2012 it will participate in another summer seminars abroad program. Additional news regarding this program will be announced on our main page.

American citizens interested in applying should visit the U.S. Department of Education website for more information about the competition, or click here for more information on how to apply.
