Fulbright Canada hosts Spring Seminar in Washington, D.C., for the new cohort of Killam Fellows

On April 24, 2025 the current cohort of Killam Fellows met in Washington for the Killam Spring Seminar. Having started this journey as a group in Ottawa in September of 2024, this annual two day capstone event highlighted the program’s commitment to fostering mutual understanding between Canada and the United States. The event included networking opportunities, roundtable discussions, and various cultural excursions, allowing the participants the opportunity to engage with peers and distinguished guests while exploring the U.S. capital.

Among other things, the Killam Fellows will participated in a guided tour of the National Mall, visited the Smithsonian Museum of American History, attended a Washington Nationals baseball game, and participated in insightful conversations at the Embassy of Canada. These experiences reflected the core values of the Killam Fellowships Program: intellectual curiosity, cultural engagement, and lasting cross-border connection.

This flagship seminar continues to strengthen bilateral academic exchange and cultivates a vibrant community of emerging leaders. As 2024–25 Killam Fellow Jad Attari noted, “The Killam Fellowships Program was a transformative experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone, broadened my horizons, and connected me to incredible people and opportunities… This program is truly life-changing, and I’ll carry its impact with me forever.
