Brian Stevenson

Brian Stevenson is Senior Advisory Fellow, Fulbright Canada West. He is also an Senior Advisory Fellow, non-resident, at the Center for U.S.-Mexico Studies, based at the University of California, San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy, where he works as part of the Canada Mexico Working Group. 

An established leader in academia, government, and the private sector, Dr. Stevenson has built an impressive record of achievement over more than three decades. 

In his current role with Fulbright Canada, Dr. Stevenson serves in a senior advisory role for Fulbright Canada’s Western office, leading engagement with key university stakeholders across British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon. This includes strengthening partnerships with university presidents, research chairs, faculty leaders, and university-based research programs to advance academic collaboration, research excellence, and cross-border exchange between Canada and the United States. He plays an important role in deepening institutional relationships and expanding Fulbright Canada’s presence across Western Canada. 

Dr. Stevenson also plays a key leadership role in supporting and advancing Fulbright Canada’s Honouring Nations Canada initiative, which recognizes and celebrates outstanding examples of Indigenous-led governance, economic development, institutional innovation, and nation building across Canada. Through this work, he helps strengthen partnerships with Indigenous leaders, communities, and institutions while advancing national recognition of excellence in Indigenous public administration and self-determined development. 

In addition, Dr. Stevenson is actively helping to advance Fulbright Canada’s new Entrepreneurship Initiative, focused on developing research, teaching, and leadership programs in partnership with industry, universities, and key stakeholders across North America. This initiative seeks to strengthen innovation ecosystems, support entrepreneurial leadership, and build stronger connections among higher education, business, and public policy. 

Between 2019 and 2025, he served as President and CEO of Navitas North America, University Partnerships Division. He was the 2018 Fulbright Research Chair at the U.S. Mexico Studies Center of the School of Public Policy and Strategy at the University of California, San Diego.
