Fulbright Canada Welcomes Three Distinguished Leaders to its Board of Directors in Milestone 80th Anniversary Year

Halifax, Nova Scotia, May 2026 — Fulbright Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of three distinguished leaders, Dr. Melanie A. Woodin, Dr. Elissa Strome, and Ms. Chantal Lamoureux, to its Board of Directors. The appointments were confirmed during the Board’s Spring Meeting in Halifax, marking a significant moment in a year that celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Fulbright Program.

Since its founding in 1946, the Fulbright Program has advanced mutual understanding between nations through academic exchange, supporting generations of students, scholars, and professionals in building connections that transcend borders. As Fulbright Canada celebrates this historic anniversary, the addition of these three accomplished leaders reflects a continued commitment to excellence, innovation, and binational collaboration.

Dr. Melanie Woodin brings a distinguished record of academic leadership and research excellence. As the 17th President of the University of Toronto and an internationally recognized neuroscientist, she has championed interdisciplinary scholarship, institutional growth, and inclusive excellence in higher education.

Dr. Elissa Strome is a prominent leader in policy, innovation, and research advancement, with extensive experience bridging academia, government, and industry. Her work has focused on strengthening Canada’s research ecosystem and promoting collaboration across sectors to address complex global challenges.

Ms. Chantal Lamoureux is a dynamic leader with deep expertise in governance, international engagement, and public service. Her experience across sectors, including higher education and global partnerships, brings a valuable perspective to Fulbright Canada’s mission of strengthening Canada–U.S. relations through educational exchange.
