THREE NEW MEMBERS JOIN THE FULBRIGHT CANADA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Fulbright Canada Board plays a critical role in the organization's success, providing leadership, oversight, and support for Fulbright Canada’s mission to identify the brightest minds across the United States and Canada and engage them in academic exchange. The Board includes the Canadian Ambassador to the United States, the US Ambassador to Canada, government officials, senior administrators from the university community, and private sector leaders. The Board represents a talented, diverse, and dedicated group of selfless individuals whose primary concern is supporting excellence and rewarding merit.

The management at Fulbright Canada is pleased to announce that effective January 1, 2023, Dr. Santa J. Ono has taken on the role of Board Chair. We are also delighted to announce the appointment of three dedicated and accomplished new board members.

Dr. Santa J. Ono will serve a two-year term as Board Chair beginning January 1, 2023. In October of 2022, following six incredibly successful years as the University of British Columbia president, Dr. Ono assumed the position of President at the University of Michigan. He has extensive experience in Canadian and American higher education. He is well-known and deeply respected for his commitment to positive change, the ability to listen and problem-solve, and his passion for the communities he serves.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Daniel McCarthy for the 10+ years he served on the Board and the unwavering support and leadership he provided as Board Chair from January 2020 to December 2022. Daniel epitomizes the selfless commitment to public service, which is the hallmark of the Fulbright program.

We are equally enthusiastic to announce the appointment of three new members:

Mr. Wendell Pritchett is the James S. Riepe Presidential Professor of Law and Education at the University of Pennsylvania. He served as the Interim University President from February 2022 to June 2022 and the University Provost from July 2017 through December 31, 2021. Mr. Pritchett has played a leadership role in numerous nonprofit organizations, including Community Legal Services of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation, the Redevelopment Authority of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania State Planning Board, the Cooper University Health Care Board of Trustees, and the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities.

Ms. Malaika Marable Serrano is Guild's VP for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). On this career opportunity platform, she leads the integration of DEI principles and best practices to empower a workforce that thrives on inclusivity and belonging. Ms. Serrano has served in several leadership and faculty roles in academic and non-profit spaces. She enjoys volunteering with women's leadership groups, delivering high-impact keynotes to HR & DEI leaders, and has authored numerous articles and book chapters.

Dr. Jason Wingard is President of Temple University and holds a dual appointment as Professor of Policy, Organizational, and Leadership Studies and Professor of Management. Dr. Wingard is also a Founding Partner and Chairman of The Education Board, Inc., a boutique management consulting firm specializing in executive coaching and corporate advisory services. Dr. Wingard is a highly respected academic and executive specializing in organizational strategy, leadership development, and the future of work.

Fulbright Canada is grateful to have each of these leaders on our Board and would like to thank all board members, past and present, for their continued support and dedication. We would like to recognize the commitment and service of Dr. Ana Mari Cauce, Mr. Walter Schindler, Mr. Michael Kempner, Dr. Obie McKenzie, and Dr. Valerie Smith. Each of these individuals served in a voluntary capacity on the Board, each in their own way a visionary and leader whose commitment and dedication were and are critical to our long-term success and our commitment to positioning the next generation of leaders to succeed.

Please join us in celebrating the appointment of Dr. Ono, welcoming Mr. Pritchett, Ms. Serrano, and Dr. Wingard, and thanking Mr. McCarthy, Dr. Cauce, Dr. Schindler, Dr. Smith, Dr. McKenzie, and Mr. Kempner for their service.
