Honouring Nations Canada Awards to Recognize Excellence in Indigenous Governance
Open Call for Applications and Nominations
Fulbright Canada is pleased to announce the opening of the Honouring Nations Canada inaugural National Indigenous Good Governance Recognition Program. Honouring Nations Canada (HNC) is an initiative of Fulbright Canada established to recognize, celebrate, and share examples of Indigenous achievement. Inspired by the Honoring Nations program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, HNC provides national awards, supports research, and promotes knowledge sharing.
The Honouring Nations Canada initiative encourages and supports Good Governance in Indigenous Communities, the principles, and practices of reconciliation, and provides opportunities for Indigenous students, scholars, and those working on matters that impact Indigenous communities.
The HNC biennial awards program identifies, celebrates, and shares outstanding examples of excellence in Indigenous governance. It expands the capacity of Indigenous nation-builders by sharing their experiences and learning the best practices of other Indigenous communities. The recognition categories are:
Building Sovereignty/Nation Building
Environmental Stewardship and Climate Action
Partnerships and Collaboration
Cultural Revitalization
Community Governance/Programming
Northern Nation Building
After months of planning, we are excited to be opening the call for nominations. Our goal is to recognize and support groundbreaking and impactful initiatives that uplift Indigenous Communities. Our Circle of Advisors looks forward to reviewing the applications and announcing our finalists in the fall of this year.
