Ottawa, ON — February 6, 2026 — Fulbright Canada is pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 Fulbright Canada–Maple Leaf Foundation Community Action Program (CAP), now open to applications from alumni and current participants across Canada and the United States.
The Community Action Program supports short-term, volunteer-led initiatives designed and delivered by Fulbright Canada alumni. Through microgrants of up to $4,000, CAP enables alumni to partner with local organizations, respond to community-identified needs, and turn ideas into meaningful action during the spring and summer months.
Since its inception in 2009, the Fulbright Canada Community Action Program has funded 187 projects, distributed more than $776,000 in grants, and supported community initiatives in 66 communities across Canada and the U.S. Projects have addressed a wide range of issues, including Indigenous storytelling and language preservation, civic engagement, and political and economic literacy.
“Fulbright has always been about exchange and engagement, which is not just the movement of people and ideas but their application in the real world,” said Dr. Michael Hawes, President and CEO of Fulbright Canada. “The Community Action Program reflects that spirit. It empowers alumni to engage with their home and host communities, apply their knowledge in practical ways, and contribute to solutions that are locally grounded, globally informed, and socially impactful.”
CAP is open to Canadian and American alumni and current grantees of Fulbright Canada programs, including the Fulbright Program and Killam Fellowships Program. Current grantees are welcome to submit proposals for projects in their communities.
Projects funded through CAP typically take place between April and August and emphasize collaboration, civic responsibility, and public service. Alumni are encouraged to work with community partners and, where possible, to involve other Fulbright alumni to increase project capacity and reach.
Applications for the 2026 cycle are open as of Friday, February 6, 2026, and close Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Successful projects will be announced in April 2026.
